Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics
The Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences was established in 1957, the International Geophysical Year, when an earthquake research station and an astronomy station were founded by order of the Council of Ministers. This laid the foundation of astronomy and geophysics research in Mongolia.
Today more than 200 staff work in two departments. Astrometry, geodynamic research and solar physics belong to the Department of Astronomy; seismology, geomagnetism and the local seismic network belong to the Department of Geophysics.
